Something Jesus seems to have often done(even with the devil in Matthew 4) is to quote scripture relating to Messiah.<br /><br /> That's what He was about and Jesus knew Baptist would be as well read( or maybe simply well learned by tradition, who knows?) as anyone about the text, IMO. <br /><br /> I agree with you, John probably expected more of a militant Jewish Messiah, but, he likely knew these Messianic references well.Patricknoreply@blogger.com
