I do not seek to understand that I may believe, but I believe in order to understand. For this also I believe, –that unless I believed, I should not understand.-- St. Anselm of Canterbury (1033-1109)

Sunday Afternoon Poetry: “God of Good Things”

by Lindsey Funtik, Coordinator of Volunteer Ministries, Ashland First United Methodist Church,  Ashland, Ohio.
___
You are God of Good Things,
of autumnal weather
and blueberries
and sculpture;
of libraries
and acceptance
and the specific itch of healing;
of decorated altars
and spouses in homes
and desserts;
of friendship
and thrilling challenges
and gentle drifting, gentle rising.
You are God of Good Things
which is to say
our gratitude orients us
toward Life,
if we choose.

We must choose.
