I do not seek to understand that I may believe, but I believe in order to understand. For this also I believe, –that unless I believed, I should not understand.-- St. Anselm of Canterbury (1033-1109)

Sunday Afternoon Poetry: “Weep, Jerusalem”

by Lindsey Funtik, Coordinator of Volunteer Ministries, Ashland First United Methodist Church,  Ashland, Ohio.
___
Weep, Jerusalem, because Rome is being touted as God.

Weep, Jerusalem, because our praises are ringing in the wrong temples.

Weep, Jerusalem, as sibling cuts down sibling in the name of tyranny.

Weep, Jerusalem, because freedom is now mine and not my neighbor's.

Weep, Jerusalem, because the Kingdom of God is at hand and

we look nothing like her citizens;

we do not look like the Lord.
