I'm not a fan of the winner take all approach to the electoral process.

The team that scores the most points wins the game. Simple.
If you get into proportional allocation in the EC you might as well abolish it and go with a national vote. The EC ensures candidates have to campaign in the entire country, else someone could win (say) California, New York & a couple of other high population states and let the rest of the country go hang.
