I do not seek to understand that I may believe, but I believe in order to understand. For this also I believe, –that unless I believed, I should not understand.-- St. Anselm of Canterbury (1033-1109)

On This Election Day, Please Remember...

...that it is important to vote. I have been in countries where the people have no such opportunity and long for the day when they can choose their leaders. So, please make sure to vote.

We also need to keep this election and every election in perspective. Contrary to what many politicians say, this is not the most important election of our lifetime. We hear that every two years, especially in a presidential election year. It is also not the case that if the other side wins (whichever side that is), it will not be the end of the universe as we know it, nor the end of freedom and democracy. Those who say such things reveal that politics is their religion.

And finally, we Christians need to remember that regardless of the outcome of today's election, when we awaken tomorrow Jesus will still be Lord, and Christ's Church will still have the mission Jesus gave to it two thousand years ago-- to make disciples of Jesus Christ.

And that reality will not change regardless of today's election results.
