SAN DIEGO, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- A California man said he is building a 2 million square foot underground doomsday shelter complete with a golf course and spa.
Robert Vicino of San Diego said construction on his bunker is under way in Atchinson, Kan., and post-apocalyptic space will be available to families at a cost of $20,000, ABC News reported Wednesday.
"Hopefully, it will never be needed, but if it is, it will be priceless," Vicino said.
Vicino said the amenities in the bunker, being built inside limestone caves, will include a wine bar, a golf course, a spa and a dance floor.
He said he hopes to open the resort before the apocalypse.
"We said, 'Let's not make it just available for a catastrophe, but let's turn it into a 24/7 resort where our members can go until the moment of truth," he said. "You get your cake and eat it too."
