I do not seek to understand that I may believe, but I believe in order to understand. For this also I believe, –that unless I believed, I should not understand.-- St. Anselm of Canterbury (1033-1109)

Tired Old Phrases that Need to be Retired

Here are mine:

1. Thinking outside the box.

2. Speaking truth to power.

3. The politics of fear.

4. Politicizing [this or that].

5. It is what it is.

6. Whatever...

7. No problem...

8. I'm spiritual, but not religious.

9. It's not rocket science.

10. My bad...

What are yours?

I hated "my bad" and "no problem" from the beginning. Whatever happened to good ole "you're welcome"?

One that I was afraid you were going to say (coming to a new church and all) was "we've always done it this way". Sometimes there are very good reasons for "doing it this way." (For instance, I'm gonna keep on doing chicken and dumplins "this" way -because it is the BEST way!) ;-)

When you ask someone "How are you?" And the most frequent answer is, "I'm good." I think that's poor theology and anthropology according to Jesus, who said only God alone is good.

General consensus of opinion..... Since consensus means general opinion, general consensus of opinion is a general general opinion opinion, which is repetitively redundant.
