Question of the Day???

What are your thoughts on Iran's election to the UN Commission on Women's Rights.

The story is here.

Unsurprised.

I guess my reaction is "What difference will it make?" I'm insufficiently knowledgeable about Iran's interactions with the UN to actually have a view. I doubt they will influence UN policy. Perhaps - although I doubt it - it might make someone, somewhere in Iran think of women as more human.

By the way, when I was in my teens and twenties, the arguments about women leading innocent men into seduction were still freely expressed. If we think it's outrageous to absolve men of responsibility for their sexual behavior, excellent. But let's remember that we too were in the same place not all that very long ago.
