A Weblog Dedicated to the Discussion of the Christian Faith and 21st Century Life
A Weblog Dedicated to the Discussion of the Christian Faith and 21st Century Life ___ I do not seek to understand that I may believe, but I believe in order to understand. For this also I believe, –that unless I believed, I should not understand.-- St. Anselm of Canterbury (1033-1109)
I am taken by his language about post-modernity preaching the doctrine of the fall to modernity and the challenge being for the church to find a way to preach redemption to fallen modernity.
This confirms my relunctance to reject postmodernity! I've always thought that some of the traditional beliefs about God, life, Jesus, Resurrection, etc...desperately needed to be carefully rethought to make sure there aren't anyholes in what we preach and teach in a variety of related areas of the faith. And postmodernity provides the method (although that term is contradictory to postmodernim itself) and opportunity to reflect on and rethink our beliefs in light of our current world and the message of redemption in its variety forms and settings.
