My conservative friends are puzzled about how it is that I treasure N.T. Wright as one of the most gifted Christian teachers of our day. I guess they have not yet figured out that conservative, in the traditional sense of the word, Anglican theology does not equate with conservative Republican politics. So many thanks for posting this. By the way, I do argue with him over the homosexual question and am still struggling with his thinking on the general resurrection.

Michael:

You are welcome. I am glad you found it helpful.

CP:

I would be interested to know what it is you struggle with in reference to Wright's understanding of general resurrection.

I take him to anticipate a reconstructed Earth with heaven being something of a holding ground until that day. While I agree that we are "embodied souls" and that materiality is an important element of the resurrection, I am inclined to think of that occurring in God's own time and space in ways that are beyond our comprehension rather than in some sort of restored terra firma. More of course, but that's the nut of it.

I know this was not the point, but did Wright admit he believes in theistic evolution?
