The Authorship of the Gospel of John

Ben Witherington has a wonderful post on Lazarus as the author of the Fourth Gospel. I have been teaching this for several years, so as you can imagine, I think he is spot on.

I loved this article. I have been under the theory that one of John of Zebedee's disciples wrote it. It is curious that John and James are not mentioned in this Gospel when they are a big part of the synoptics.

Also, I didn't agree with the theory about why the three of the them (Lazarus and Martha and Mary) were not married. If the house they lived in was Simon the Leper's house, being their father, then Lazarus would not have had the high standing with the elite in Jerusalem, which is supposedly why he was able to get in that night that Jesus was carried away.

Other than that though, I may have just had my mind changed. Thanks for linking to the article.

You're welcome. If nothing else, it is a stimulating read.
