Biography of Ambrose
Jesus is our mouth, through which we speak to the Father; He is our eye, through which we see the Father; He is our right hand through which we offer ourselves to the Father. Unless He intercedes, there is no interaction with God.
It is a great mystery of divine love, that not even in Christ was exception made of the death of the body; and although He was the Lord of nature, He refused not the law of the flesh which He had taken upon Him. It is necessary for me to die; for Him it was not necessary.
To the good man to die is gain. The foolish fear death as the greatest of evils, the wise desire it as a rest after labors and the end of ills.
No duty is more urgent than that of returning thanks.
The Devil tempts that he may ruin and destroy; God tests that He may crown.
There is no time of life past learning something.
There is nothing evil save that which perverts the mind and shackles the conscience.
If you are at Rome live in the Roman style; if you are elsewhere live as they live elsewhere.
It is not the ambassador, it is not the messenger, but the Lord Himself that saveth His people. The Lord remains alone, for no man can be partner with God in forgiving sins; this office belongs solely to Christ, who takes away the sins of the world.
When I am at Rome, I fast on a Saturday: when I am at Milan I do not. Do the same. Follow the custom of the church where you are.
In some causes silence is dangerous; so if any know of conspiracies against their country or king, or any that might greatly prejudice their neighbor, they ought to discover it.

Thanks Allan, for sharing those quotes. Ambrose, I just read, is considered one of the four great early Latin fathers. And was used of God in Augustine's life. We can and really need to learn from such. A dearth in my own life.
