A Weblog Dedicated to the Discussion of the Christian Faith and 21st Century Life ___ I do not seek to understand that I may believe, but I believe in order to understand. For this also I believe, –that unless I believed, I should not understand.-- St. Anselm of Canterbury (1033-1109)
Mort Zuckerman wrote an opinion piece on the current conflict in Israel and Lebanon, and the factors that have created the current situation. His analysis is hard to refute. Do you think he is right?
Allan, Interesting. Thanks for sharing that. And yes, his analysis is hard to refute.
I doubt that this is giving a fair picture of the whole. There are other analyses that point fingers at Israel and some actions and policies that seem extreme or misguided. And the majority of Lebanese Christians for years have sided with the Arabs and Palestinians due to their belief that Israel was often unjust in their actions.
But thanks for this analyses. Over the past few days on NPR, ABC and BBC I think I've heard pretty balanced reporting overall, helping us get something of the perspectives of both sides. Certainly a tragic situation.
There is no doubt that over the years, Israel has been less than perfect in their behavior in the midst of the difficulties, but I keep coming back to the issue of how one nation co-exists with people who are bent on snuffing it out of existence at all cost.
I have no doubt that there are Palestinians Muslims and other Muslims as well, who are content to coexist with Israel; the problem is they are not in charge.
It is certainly a tragic situation. The road of human history is paved with blood and tears.
Yes, this is a short, sweet, to the point analysis of the current middle east situation. we are headed out tomorrow to show our support for Israel, as Christians, at our state capitol. No, Israel is not perfect. Fallen humans, sinful, like the rest of us. But they deserve to exist, and their neighbors will not rest until they are "wiped off the map." Selfishly, I am very glad to be on this side of the planet.
Allan, I agree with you. As I was saying to Deb, my wife today, some are bent on Israel's destruction as a nation. We do need to try to see different perspectives. Very difficult situation there.

Thanks for your comments. Yes, there is something to be said for being "over here."
